There has been a surprising amount of rain.
About which, of course, you will never hear me complaining. No way.
Rain means that the broad beans are stretching themselves out very nicely in their tub. I intend to use some of their tender leaves in a salad. Indeed, I have already been experimenting on those days when the sun streams through the windows. You can feel the season tilting toward spring.
But the rain does mean that I need to think about how best to tackle the grass this weekend.
It's completely out of control.

Broadbeans already? Your mum commented on the short Scottish growing season the other day and now you have broadbeans at the end of winter.
Love how you've caught that rainy light in these photos.

Your broad beans look great! I didn't grow any this year because I'm reduced to a balcony, but I'm always looking into gardens and feeling jealous.

If only I could say we had too much rain... or any for that matter. According to the weather sites, my part of southeastern Texas hasn't seen rain since June 2, and even then it was 0.02". I moved in after that date, so I'm not sure when the last time was before that. It's getting pretty extreme down here! Send some rain our way, please!
Cheers,
*Heather*

Hello Lucy. Today my part of the world (Northern Hemisphere, West Coast of Canada) looks a lot like your top photo -- but your bokah is much better ;-). I love your phrase "tilting toward spring". So gentle, so evocative. Though I hope we have a few more warm summer days between now and Sept 22nd, I have the sense we are tilting toward autumn. Which is a good thing this year as we've had a very intense summer.
Bean leaves in a salad -- I'll be looking for a future post on how you use them.
