I do know the pain of the holiday house kitchen. Now I'll have to read Summer Cooking to learn her suggestions.

Even if I can't or don't wish to eat most of her food, I enjoy a good dip into her writing.

..,and yes, we've all stayed in that holiday house. If it has a chopping board at all, it's an old wooden one deeply rutted and smelling of rancid tea towels.

Caz

Thanks for reminding me about 'Summer Cooking'. I'm just about to undergo (sounds like an operation doesn't it?) a major kitchen renovation so I need to get into 'holiday house' mode.

Elaine

Gold indeed. Based on that excerpt (especially "a day's march between sink & stove") I want to read her books on any style of cooking. Really enjoyed The Guardian article & Tim Hayward's writing, too.

Lucy

caz: is IS like an operation! good luck. will you post about it as things travel along?

elaine: that was my fave bit. she's wonderful, slightly pompus too which, being colonists, we can of course giggle about. that guardian piece is great - made me worry about all the notes i make in my cookbook margins, though...

JohannaGGG

never got into her as someone to devour by the book but I quite like to dip in and out - does that mean I wouldn't want to live with her but am quite happy to have her over for a cuppa and chat (and of course piece of cake) every now and again?

Caz

Thanks Lucy. I am hoping to post about my kitchen renovation journey as I go and maybe I could share some 'renovation recipes'?

Sophie

You make her sound very intriguing... tempted... A quick google search... what a lady... amazon here I come.
Thank you for this one Lucy.

I love Ms Lizzie.
