Just perfect for sunflowers and corn, standing tall, next to one another on these hot days.
SUPER-excited about the corn as well you might imagine, but it's the sunflowers that have stolen the show.
Just look at that lazy snoozer, in between the rows. Jo called her a (scruffy) child of the corn. Should be ready for the pot or grill this long, hot weekend.
(the corn, not the dog)

Glad to know it is the corn and not the dog that will be in a pot or on a grill. Ha! We are so far from corn season... I'm jealous. But if we had fresh everything all of the time it wouldn't be as enjoyable, right? Enjoy your corn!

mmmm...corn! Love your gardening stories – and pics. I haven't touched gardening in a while, so admire your work and passion. Are you going to selling your produce at farmers markets? I'll def have to come and see you then :-) Happy new year, BTW. I see you've had a fab start to 2012! Lesh x

the sunflowers DO wind up stealing the show, don't they? g planted and tended a long row of mammoths along our garden fence last summer and while they didn't look like much for a while, they wound up dominating the entire garden landscape after a while, as a visual element, anyway. and i know a few mice, some red squirrels, fat bluejays, and raucous compost-partying crows who were VERY HAPPY with our fine harvest of giant sunflower heads.
i love that i can feel your summery heat through your images. it does me such good, in the midst of winter.
