It's cold out, wet too, and I'm sitting here with an unexpected gap in the afternoon. In the oven are two trays of vegetables, tossed with oil and sea salt, roasting away, filling the house - well, only the kitchen in a house of this size - with their delicious out-of-season fug. Truth be told, I've committed a number of culinary crimes against the season this winter and today's miserable outlook made me long for the weekend of sunshine and bare feet just passed.
Fat eggplants and shiny red peppers were begging to come home. Some days you just give in.
Packing has begun. It's a task I seriously love. I am not nostalgic as a rule - I have an unflinching policy about what stays or goes - but for some reason, the fact that we are moving from this large, cold house soon has me pining for the light we'll be leaving behind. It's been the best teacher I have ever had, this place, even better than the last. In more ways than I could have imagined.
We're standing right on the edge of some pretty exciting and hectic times, and I am finally, just today, as the sky closes in and the house begins to freeze over yet again, ready to face them.
All the best with the move dear Lucy.

I have a container of dried mango cheeks that I have taken to sniffing coz they smell like summer. It's too cold for a WA girl to be in Tassie.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could pack the light with your other possessions & carry it with you to your new home. Just imagine unpacking that box!
All the best to you during this transition period.

Wow, big changes... So important.
I wish you all the luck in the world and easy transition.
Is the new place far from where you are now?

this is one instance where we differ vastly (the packing thing). i am a ruthless and very efficient packer, but now i hate it (we moved six times in as many years, and i was the packer and unpacker, and these days i feel like i never want to do it again). well, we finally BOUGHT a house, so the issue of getting bumped due to circumstances is somewhat less likely at this point.
but, the reason i have chosen all of our dwellings has been all about the quality of light. if it's not good, or inspiring in some way, i never go for it. i'm sure your new digs will be different, but will also be great in their own unique way on that score, because this is a major priority in your eye/heart/soul, and you wouldn't have it any other way.
so looking forward to meeting yr new home, lucy...i'm burstingly happy for you that you are moving to the country.
far out, man.

good luck with the move - you sound very positive
and re roasting veg out of season - I think this is the time of year that trying to eat seasonally hurts the most - I am hanging out for the spring fruit and veg - not long now

Good luck with the move, Lucy. Can't wait to hear all about it. And, of course, see the photos. xxx

Your lemons picture post was full of sunshine and joy and this post is so poignant and sad. Good luck with your move.

where are you moving to?

Thanks, all! Much packing happening, but it's all a bit slow. Which is good, as it's the weekend.
Having already scoped out the joint, I can confidently say that the new place, out of the city limits, has GREAT light and lots of space.

Best of luck to you with the move! Keep on looking at the bright side of life, and you'll be able to see the light of your new home. You got off to a good start; packing can be frustrating for some people, after all.

That's the spirit, girl! Women who are empowered by this value usually become tougher… Moving to a new house shouldn't be a barrier for you to enjoy life. Besides, you should live your life to the fullest every day! Moving in gives you new opportunities and friends too! ;)
